From the town of Memuro, Planning and Coordination Dept, 1994

A mission from our sister city, Tracy, arrived in Memuro in October to promote friendship between the two cities.  It was the second such mission from Tracy; the first mission visited Memuro four years ago, when the two cities signed a sister city pact.

The 1993 mission consisted of two members: La Verne Roche, Vice President for the Sister City Association of Tracy, Inc., arriveing on October 17 and Eugene D. Birk, the association's accountant, arriving on the 19th.  Although they were undoubtedly tired from their long trip, they were quite active, meeting as many citizens as possible in Memuro.  They paid their respects to Mayor Suzuki, visited public facilities such as schools and attended various receptions.

The mission members enjoyed their stay, in spite of their tight schedule.  They purchased several wood craft souveniers in the workshop for the handicapped and had a chance to play a Japanese harp (koto) at a party.  They also showed their concern for the farmers of Memuro who suffered from a poor crop the previous year.  Mission members expressed their hope that local farmers would enjoy a good harvest in the coming year.  Mr. Birk left Memuro on October 25 and Ms. Roche left on the 29th.

Michael Jerry Robinson and Correna Denise Kelley, who came to Memuro as Lion's Club exchange students from the town's sister city, Tracy, visited Mayor Suzuki on July 23, 1994.

Michael and Correna are both seventeen-year-old high school students in Tracy.  Michael plays basketball and likes to go scuba-diving.  While in Memuro he learned to enjoy Japanese food such as stewed fish.  Correna likes playing softball and surfs quite often.  She was the topic of an article in Tracy's newspaper; the same article also appeared in the July issue of Memuro's newsletter.  Michael stayed at Kenji Takahashi's house for 21 days and Correna stayed a Ryuichi Mukainakano's house for 11 days.  They left Memuro on July 31 with many good memories.
